I started this blog out of the love that I have for my neighborhood and for the city of Nashville. My hope is that this will turn into a useful resource for people wanting to explore South Nashville, particularly the Wedgewood-Houston area and the neighborhoods immediately surrounding it. My plan is to highlight the things that make this area unique as I experience it.
- From the water tower to Ft. Negley, there are so many wonderful features that I can't wait to explore.
- There are a lot of changes taking place around Wedgewood-Houston; aging homes are being renovated to look new again, businesses are moving in and out of our neighborhood, the State Fairgrounds will be going through some intense changes within the next few years.
- What lies ahead for South Nashville, and how will these changes affect our daily lives?
For the record, here is a map of Wedgewood-Houston and the area that surrounds it:

In order to best focus on all of the different aspects of South Nashville, I am going to break down my posts into different categories:
South Nashville at Home: Meet the neighbors! Curious about that home renovation going on down the street? Or maybe you've been dying to find out where the people in that house on Hamilton found their yard gnomes. How about the artist that just moved in next door? Or the nice lady who has lived in her house for 30 years; what can she tell us about her street when she first moved in? One of the best things about our neighborhood is the diversity of the people in it. What's their story?
South Nashville at Work: Not only are there plenty of small businesses in our area, but many home businesses as well. I want to explore these as well as our thriving artist community and our many not-for-profit groups who volunteer to make our community a better place.
South Nashville at Play: Rich or poor, young or old, there are a plethora of activities that take place right here in our neighborhood for people of all different backgrounds and interests!
Savory South Nashville: There aren't a ton of restaurants right in Wedgewood-Houston, but we do have some delicious places to eat right around the corner! Learn where you can grab some yummy grub without having to go very far to get it.
Shop South Nashville: Again, not a whole lot of shopping in Wedgewood-Houston per se, but that doesn't mean we have to go to Cool Springs to find cool stuff!
South Nashville History: Wedgewood-Houston has some fascinating stories to tell. What can we uncover about our neighborhood's past?
If you live or work in the area and have an idea for a post that might fit into one of these categories I urge you to contact me at email@example.com to share your ideas.
Who am I?
My husband and I bought our first home in Wedgewood-Houston in 2007. The house was in such bad condition that it nearly needed to be gutted entirely. What started out as what we considered an investment property became a labor of love; a love for the house we made our home, an appreciation for our community and a yearning to do my part in fostering our community.
I have a tendency to keep a few too many irons in the fire, but my excuse is that it's because I want to experience as much as I can. By day I work as a song promoter on Music Row. I am a member of the South Nashville Action People, a member of our neighborhood Citizens Advisory Committee, a sporadic volunteer for various other groups that interest me, a singer in an old-country/bluegrass band and a mother of two wonderful adopted little brown dogs named Eli and Marvin.
