Baby steps! We definitely keep filtered water in the fridge at home. The problem is at the office, where I've kicked the water bottle habit but I still drink tap water from a plastic solo cup. I reuse the same one over and over again, but I may just have to get a metal bottle to keep here.

We make good use of our Brita filter at home, but at work I am terribly guilty of consuming insane amounts of bottled water and get this....I don't even recycle the bottles. For shame!

Seriously, BPA in plastic bottles is a known hormone disrupter. That might be reason enough for you to ditch the plastic water bottles. Attempts to ban BPA have been fought by corporate interests but I think a ban is inevitable. You can read about it here:

It was hard for me to ditch the plastic in our house since it's in EVERYTHING. First thing I did was get a glass water bottle. I fill it with filtered water (we have a water filter on our tap), and keep it in the fridge. Then I got one of those a metal water containers, which I also fill up and keep in the fridge. So I can always have filtered water not in a toxic plastic water bottle. You might try getting one of those.

The tap water in Nashville tastes like crap unless it's filtered. That's just the reality. And ... what the heck is that stuff floating around in it? No, wait -- don't answer that.

Removing the other plastic from the kitchen was harder and more expensive. But I tossed all of the Tupperware and other plastic storage containers and replaced them with glass. And naturally we don't use plastic cups or anything like that.

Once you are finished with your food stamp challenge you might want to look into ditching the plastic.
