Vintage South Nashville: The Whitsitts Part II

A few weeks ago I posted several photos of the Whitsitt family and their properties because they are a common name around Woodbine. Since there are a whole bunch of Whitsitt pics on the TN State Library and Archives, I've broken it down to two posts. So without further ado, here are more of the Whitsitts:

Flat Rock Elementary School, Whitsitt Lane, showing faculty and student body, including John B. Whitsitt, John Bell Whitsitt, Reuben Whitsitt, William Heath Whitsitt, and Margaret Whitsitt White. Brick building with shutters. ca. 1889

W.H. Whitsitt House on Whitsitt Lane. Shows Mattie Ezell Whitsitt, Rebecca Whitsitt Young and W.H. Whitsitt, Jr. ca. 1910

John Bell Whitsitt house on Glen Rose Ave. Photograph shows Lucy Whitsitt with pony and cart. ca. 1916

I've posted this one before, but I love seeing old Nolensville Road so much that I'm posting again.

Row of small houses on Nolensville Road. Whitsitt Grocery at the far end. Next to it is Dodd's Blacksmith Shop. Streetcar tracks are visible on the road. Two horse carts are visible on the far right. ca. 1910

If I find anymore I'll do a Part III. But for now, happy weekend kiddos!

Thanks for the blast from the local past. I grew up in Woodbine and both my dad and myself went to the original John B. Whitsitt Elementary School before it was torn down in 1998. My dad grew up in the house that my parents still live in on Ennis Road.
