- From the water tower to Ft. Negley, there are so many wonderful features that I can't wait to explore.
- There are a lot of changes taking place around Wedgewood-Houston; aging homes are being renovated to look new again, businesses are moving in and out of our neighborhood, the State Fairgrounds will be going through some intense changes within the next few years.
- What lies ahead for South Nashville, and how will these changes affect our daily lives?
For the record, here is a map of Wedgewood-Houston and the area that surrounds it:

In order to best focus on all of the different aspects of South Nashville, I am going to break down my posts into different categories:
South Nashville at Home: Meet the neighbors! Curious about that home renovation going on down the street? Or maybe you've been dying to find out where the people in that house on Hamilton found their yard gnomes. How about the artist that just moved in next door? Or the nice lady who has lived in her house for 30 years; what can she tell us about her street when she first moved in? One of the best things about our neighborhood is the diversity of the people in it. What's their story?
South Nashville at Work: Not only are there plenty of small businesses in our area, but many home businesses as well. I want to explore these as well as our thriving artist community and our many not-for-profit groups who volunteer to make our community a better place.
South Nashville at Play: Rich or poor, young or old, there are a plethora of activities that take place right here in our neighborhood for people of all different backgrounds and interests!
Savory South Nashville: There aren't a ton of restaurants right in Wedgewood-Houston, but we do have some delicious places to eat right around the corner! Learn where you can grab some yummy grub without having to go very far to get it.
Shop South Nashville: Again, not a whole lot of shopping in Wedgewood-Houston per se, but that doesn't mean we have to go to Cool Springs to find cool stuff!
South Nashville History: Wedgewood-Houston has some fascinating stories to tell. What can we uncover about our neighborhood's past?
If you live or work in the area and have an idea for a post that might fit into one of these categories I happily urge you to contact me at southnashvillelife@gmail.com to share your ideas.
So...
Who am I?Good question!
My husband and I bought our first home in Wedgewood-Houston 2 years ago. The house was in such bad condition that it nearly needed to be gutted entirely (I'll save that for a later post). What started out as what we considered an investment property became a labor of love; a love for the house we made our home, an appreciation for our community and a yearning to do my part in fostering our community.
I have a tendency to keep a few too many irons in the fire, but my excuse is that it's because I want to experience as much as I can. By day I work as a song promoter on Music Row. By night I am a member of the South Nashville Action People (more on them later), a member of our neighborhood Citizens Advisory Committee, a sporadic volunteer for various other groups that interest me, a singer in an old-country/bluegrass band and a mother of two wonderful adopted little brown dogs named Eli and Marvin.
I'm not an experienced blogger so bear with me (it took me about a week to write this post), but I figured writing about our neighborhood would motivate me to experience it. That's my ultimate goal.

Write On! As a neighbor in the back of Berry Hill (the Row at Berry Hill) I was excited to stumble across your blog. Great job so far! I am a Realtor and also have a blog, but I'm not much of a writer so I just tend to repost interesting articles and news.
My neighborhood faves? The honey/walnut cream cheese at Sam & Zoes, Melrose Pub and the smokey pool hall across the street, Athen's Greek for Sunday brunch, huge patio at El Mariachi, oh and the racetrack (NOT!).
Thanks for reading, Stephanie!
AND thanks for listing your neighborhood favorites! Hopefully I can get around to highlighting some of them soon. I'm a frequent customer at Melrose Pub, so shouldn't be long. :)
I'm glad to have found this! I live in Wedgewood-Houston (but often can't quite make it to the SNAP meetings). Thanks for highlighting our little area!
Thanks for reading, Rachel! Also, I just clicked through to your blog. Wonderful and priceless information for women. Can't wait to read more.
